Things to do

When hiking one is not restricted to roads; follow the game paths like the explorers of long ago did when they were discovering the interior of Africa. Arrange for a guided 4x4 game drive, breakfast in the bush or sundowners with spectacular views. Night drives offer an exiting world of nocturnal animals.
Marrick Safari would like to offer you the full experience of nature in their natural surroundings. There is a wide variety of bird life, including birds endemic to the area.
Kimberley, although synonymous with the Big Hole is also famous for its large population
of flamingo, which congregate at the Campers Dam, where a new breeding island has
been established. Numbers vary between 3000 -
Marrick Safari is proud to have a pair of breeding Blue Crane returning annually. Available on request is a bird list compiled by our local ornithologist Mark Anderson.

it is the largest hand dug excavation in the world. It yielded 14.5 million carats

Kimberly Mine Museum
Consisting of original as well as carefully reconstructed buildings,
this museum has preserved the city's past. The Eureka, the first recorded diamond
discovered in South Africa, can be viewed here. Have fun sifting through diamond
bearing gravel, looking for your own diamond. Play skittles in the old bowling alley,

Situated in Chapel Street in the central business
district. The original McGregor Museum was built in 1907 in memory of Alexander McGregor,
a former mayor.
The Transport Museum
This has a fine collection of railway memorabilia from the
early days of steam locomotion. Kimberley was a main line terminus on the routes
to and from Cape Town and the goldfields of the Transvaal.
UPINGTON -
Nestled on the banks of the Orange River, this is the principal town in the far north. Full of supermarkets and chain stores, it is clearly prosperous. It is a good stopover on the way to South Africa from Namibia, and close to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
Covering almost 1,000,000 hectares, this park is nestled between Botswana and Namibia, with 1,807,000 hectares in Botswana. Its landscape is semi desert which supports bird life, reptiles, small mammals and antelopes, which in turn support a large population of predators such as Kalahari lion, cheetah and leopard. Much of the wildlife is concentrated around the waterholes in the riverbeds or the usually dry Nossob and Auob River that runs through the park.
